Growing up in a small southern town, Denise stayed involved with her community by volunteering at local non-profit organizations. These interactions, early in her life, made her realize how important it is, at an individual level, to contribute the community. After business school in Tennessee, she headed north to Indianapolis to build her career. After Indianapolis she moved to New York and finally put roots down in Chicago.
She has extensive experience in the corporate world and has worked in both the public and private domain. During her tenure in the public sector, she led projects in the areas of risk management, government relations and internal audit. While in the private sector she focused on sales and marketing and controllership function.
After settling in Chicago, she took a sabbatical to start growing her family. Two energetic boys later, she felt the pull to make a meaningful contribution to their community. Being the wife of an immigrant, she knows it can be intimidating and difficult to acclimate to a new country, and therefore is excited about the opportunities that New Citizen Project will provide. She believes that given the right tools, refugees and immigrants can flourish in the United States and achieve their “American Dream”. In her spare time, Denise loves to travel, read, run (mostly after her boys) and practice elevated cooking.
